NEWS UPDATE: $5 Million Allocated for Affordable Housing in Renaissance Heights!
Exciting News for Renaissance Heights Foundation!
We are thrilled to share a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to advocate for affordable housing in Tarrant County. Despite recent challenges, the spirit of collaboration and commitment to our community’s well-being shine brighter than ever. Here’s the remarkable story:
In a significant development, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court has granted approval to award $3.5 million to the Renaissance Heights Foundation. This allocation is dedicated to the advancement of affordable housing units as part of Tarrant County’s American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Program.
But the good news doesn’t stop there! The City of Fort Worth is also poised to make a substantial contribution, pledging $1.5 million in federal funds toward the Renaissance Heights Phase III project. This commitment reflects the city’s dedication to the cause of affordable housing in our community.
The collaboration between Tarrant County and the City of Fort Worth for this vital initiative is a testament to their shared commitment to improving housing accessibility for our residents.
The next important step in this process is the City Council’s approval, scheduled for September 12th. Once confirmed, these combined funds will amount to a remarkable $5 million, marking a significant milestone in the development of affordable housing in Renaissance Heights.
This allocation reaffirms our collective vision for a community where safe and affordable housing is within everyone’s reach. We are immensely grateful for the continued support of our partners and stakeholders, whose dedication is driving us toward a brighter future.
Turning Challenges into Opportunities: Tarrant County recently faced a tough decision as they reallocated funds from various sectors, including affordable housing and public health, to finance a new law enforcement training center and maintain a contract with a private prison. This decision was met with both support and concerns, underscoring the importance of community engagement in the allocation of resources.
Advocacy for Affordable Housing: Even as funds were reshuffled, the dedication to affordable housing remained strong. Notably, about $15 million remained unallocated for affordable housing projects. While this highlights a need for more developers to join the cause, it’s also a testament to our community’s support for this critical initiative. We are grateful for the trust placed in us by Glencreast Civic League NA, Mitchell Blvd, and United Communities, who provided no objection letters, helping us continue building affordable housing.
A Bright Future: As we navigate these challenges, it’s essential to remember that our shared goals for affordable housing remain steadfast. The support and advocacy of our community are driving forces behind our progress.
